During the summer months, there is nothing better than getting out and about with your family. However, this does mean that you should be aware of some of the bugs that can be found outside. Not only this, but you need to know of the issues that being bitten by a bug could cause.

Lyme Disease is just such an issue. It is caused by tick bites and can be contracted by all ages. Ticks are small, brown insects which can be found in moist areas such as tall grass or piles of leaves.

Early stages of Lyme Disease

Within the first month of a tick bite some of the early symptoms of Lyme Disease can develop. This includes:

  • A red rash that is expanding
  • A fever
  • Muscle and joint pain
  • Swollen lymph nodes
  • Headaches

You may also find you have some wider symptoms, especially if it has been a few weeks since the bite and you have not received treatment. These symptoms include:

  • Bell’s Palsy
  • Severe headaches
  • Stiffness
  • Swelling and pain in the joints
  • Shooting pains
  • Heart palpitations

Late stages of Lyme Disease

If your Lyme Disease is not diagnosed and left untreated then you may find that months and even years after the bite you will still suffer a variety of different symptoms.

Untreated Lyme Disease can leave you with:

  • Severe joint pain and swelling, particularly in the knees
  • Tingling hands
  • Memory issues
